We were there a week before November and the hotel was not legally allowed to turn on its heaters until 1 November (we were told) so it was rather cold. Also, there were always unsupervised school children making a noise in the corridors at night, sometimes even banging on our door. The staff was absolutely minimal and we felt sorry for them but it took us a long time to warm to them as they were very reticent and unsmiling for a long time. When we went on to Gubbio, we were overwhelmed with hospitality, made to feel welcome, assisted in finding our way around etc. Nothing like this was on offer at Spoleto. There was actually no restaurant and bar service. Internet access was, as you would apparently expect in an old city, appalling.

It was freezing cold and the wasn't working in the mornings and during the day. Hot water in the bathroom had hardly any pressure, it was impossible to have a good warm shower in the freezing cold. The toilet had no seat and the whole room smelled like a hospital.
However the staff was very friendly and helping.
